House Denies People, Passes Bailout
Apparently, when a vast majority of constituents want the government to leave the economy alone, in favor of protecting tax payers and making the markets right themselves, the House of Representatives is only capable of listening one time. When it comes around a second time, they're going to turncoat and vote in favor of wasting $700 billion. No matter how big the outcry, it doesn't change a thing. The thing that apparently made the difference? Billions more added onto the bill as pork! If that doesn't show you that politicians only look out for themselves, I don't know what does.
I'm not really sure there is much more to say on this. I've pretty much covered why I do not like the idea of dumping money into the economy. It won't do anything but prolong the suffering and end up making matters worse. Our politicians don't seem to understand history and how we're so very willing to repeat some of the biggest mistakes we've made in the past century.
The only solace I get in this whole matter is that my representative, Tim Walberg (R-MI), voted against the bailout both times. Carl Levin voted for the bailout on Wednesday, so I'm hoping that hurts his chance to win in November, since he's up for re-election. Other than that, this has been a complete disaster.

Levin's opponent, Jack Hoogendyk, opposes the bailout.

So does Scotty Boman. I'll be voting for Boman and pulling for Hoogendyk to win.

After supporting the Libertarian party for years, (I was actually the GT County chair several years ago) and being frustrated by lack of ability to get anything done, I decided the best way was to become active in the Republican party. (think Ron Paul) I actually find a little more similarity with Republican Ideals but with a stronger Libertarian influence. The diff is that I will stand my ground rather than cave. So would Hoogendyk.
How do I reconcile it all? I donate more to the Libertarians than the Republicans in general so the message is made, (remember Ron Paul 6Mill? all me baby.. lol) and then use the message to talk to the Repubs I support.
Don't get frustrated. Walberg did good, and that's a good start.
